24 hand-crafted nails in your size, nail glue, 24 adhesive tabs, a cuticle stick, a mini file, a prep wipe, and a keepsake tin for re-wearing your set.

Measure the widest point of each natural nail in millimetres. A soft tape measure works best; a strip of paper marked and held to a ruler works too. Measure bare nails, not over polish or extensions.

Pick the size that matches most of your fingers. Between sizes, or nail beds on the flatter side? Choose the larger size, the sides file down cleanly. Measure before opening the seal: for hygiene reasons, opened sets can't be returned.

Prep (both methods). Push back cuticles, buff each nail lightly until the shine goes matte, then wipe away every trace of dust with the prep wipe. Oil is the enemy of hold.

With adhesive tabs. Choose a tab slightly smaller than your nail bed, smooth it on, and peel the cover. Lay the press-on at a 45 degree angle from the cuticle, lower it flat, and press for 10 seconds. Warming each tab with a hairdryer for a few seconds first makes the bond noticeably stronger.

With glue. A pea-size drop on the back of the press-on, same 45 degree placement, then press and hold for a full 30 seconds.

After applying. Keep hands out of water for 2 hours while the bond cures.

Removal. Soak your hands in warm soapy water with a drop of oil: about 5 to 10 minutes for tabs, 10 to 15 for glue. Lift gently from the sides with the cuticle stick. Never force or peel a dry set, and skip acetone entirely, it clouds the gel.

With glue: 2 to 3 weeks of full-time wear, showers and gym included. With adhesive tabs: 1 to 3 days per wear, and the set comes off clean for next time, up to 20 wears with fresh tabs. Wear gloves for dishes and heavy cleaning, open cans with a spoon and not your nails, and the hard-gel seal will outlast the adhesive every time.
